Dubai: A Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inspector has been jailed for tricking a 23-year-old Indian into paying Dh1,000 ‘hush money' for sitting with his wife in a car in a public place.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 20-year-old Emirati inspector to three months in jail and fined him Dh1,000.
The complainant said he and his wife were having lunch in his car in a parking lot in the Shindagha area when the RTA inspector told him: "The UAE is a Muslim country and it is unlawful to sit with a woman in a public place … I will report you to the police unless you pay a Dh1,000 fine."
