The source said a young Emirati detainee at Al Qusais Police Station died from an overdose after injecting himself with heroin. The source said A.R.A., 22, was found dead on Wednesday at around 4am in his cell at the police station after taking the overdose of heroin.
"The victim was detained in a case related to drugs," a police source said, adding that a blood test and urine test would be administered to other detainees in the same jail with the victim to find out if they were also taking drugs with him.
Meanwhile, the Appeals Court in Dubai upheld a ten-year sentence against a former police official who was accused of smuggling drugs to prisoners in the jail in return for money.
The former police official is identified Khalifa. He used to work at Al Aweer central jail in Dubai.
