Fraudsters warned against using rape charges to make money
A lawyer has warned 'deceptive street girls', who seek to make an easy-profit by accusing men of kidnap and rape, that their malicious ruse could land them in court.
Dubai: A lawyer has warned 'deceptive street girls', who seek to make an easy-profit by accusing men of kidnap and rape, that their malicious ruse could land them in court.
Some women fish for men in public places by posing as prostitutes then claim to the police that they were kidnapped and raped by these men, who later end up either paying thousands in hush money to the woman to waive her complaint to avoid jail, according to advocate Abdullah Al Nasser, of Araa Group Advocates and Legal Consultants.
"Such sneaky girls are criminals and should be charged with deception and having consensual sex and be prosecuted for their crime.
"Many men have fallen prey to such deceitful women and landed in trouble... they compensate the girls with unaffordable amounts of money for the rape complaints to be dropped or they face jail. The authorities have got to be more vigilant while investigating such cases because most such girls flee the country instantly after collecting their hush money," advocate Al Nasser cautioned.
His warning came after the Dubai Court of First Instance recently acquitted his 28-year-old Emirati client of tricking a Moroccan woman into his car and driving off to an unlit area and molesting her.
The court cleared his client, who is a corporal, of kidnap with deception and molesting the woman after the latter gave an inconsistent statement due to lack of corroborating evidence.
The primary verdict automatically became irrevocable after the conclusion of the 15-day period within which the Public Prosecution should have appealed the judgment.
According to the woman's statement to the Public Prosecution, the 28-year-old suspect picked her up from Abu Hail and she asked him to drop her at her house in Al Qusais. She claimed that when he asked to have sex with her she refused, but he beat, her, took off her abaya and molested her.
She alleged that she jumped out of the car and later reported the incident to the police.
When he appeared in court, the corporal denied the allegations of kidnap and molestation and pleaded not guilty.
Al Nasser said: "The girl's statement was a shameful lie& she fabricated this comic play of which she was the main actress. The medical report confirmed that there were no signs of assault or molestation. She stopped him and willingly joined him for shisha and coffee before she fabricated this incident& she even gave him her contact number."
Al Nasser told Gulf News: "If the girl hadn't left the country, I would have definitely asked the court to prosecute the girl for consensual sex and prostitution."
