Four-year jail term for woman with codeine in system
Tracy Wilkinson, who was detained at Dubai International Airport early last month, has been given a four-year jail term for having the banned substance codeine in her bloodstream.

A British woman has been given a four-year jail term for having the banned substance codeine in her bloodstream.
Tracy Wilkinson, a 42-year-old, who was detained at Dubai International Airport early last month, is planning to appeal against the sentence, court officials told Gulf News.

Wilkinson, reported to be a mother-of-two from West Sussex, was sentenced after she was found to have taken the banned drug codeine.
A source from the Dubai Public Prosecution who did not want to be named told Gulf News that the judge found the woman guilty of possessing narcotics that is prohibited according to the UAE penal law. Wilkinson was ordered to serve four years in jail for addiction followed by deportation.
The lawyer representing Wilkinson has denied his client has been sentenced. He said the fifth hearing would be on Saturday.
Gulf News's original source, however, stood by the information he gave to the newspaper.
The source said: "When the woman landed in Dubai, she was not in a normal condition, and was very dizzy. Police detained her and requested a urine specimen, and the results showed that it contained codeine."
He added that they arrested her, and started an investigation.
A source from the Criminal Investigation Department in Dubai Police told Gulf News that codeine was on the illegal drug list of the UAE.
"When we detained her, we didn't find any prescription from a doctor saying that she must take medicines that contain codeine."
