Dubai: A British visitor is to be jailed for one year for beating two policemen who tried to arrest him and for forging documents and using them.

The Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday convicted the 25-year-old Briton of brutally assaulting two policemen, forging and using faked documents and impersonation.

Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout, who pronounced yesterday's verdict, said the accused, A.H., will be deported after serving his punishment.

The court, however, acquitted A.H. of attempting to sell a villa worth Dh16 million, on a Palm Island, using forged documents.

Prosecutors charged A.H. with forging a British passport which he used to confirm his allegations that he was authorised to sell the villa in an attempt to pocket the money.

Five charges

"No. That didn't happen. I am not guilty," argued the accused when he earlier denied his list of five charges and defended himself in court.

According to the charge sheet, the accused forged Dubai airport's entry and exit stamps on the British passport which belonged to K.F. He was also charged with replacing K.F.'s passport photo with his photo.

Prosecutors' charges also included attempted swindling when he claimed to be K.F. and offered to sell the villa to his 31-year-old compatriot property broker, O.C.
