Ras Al Khaimah: The Traffic and Licensing Department applied the newly-introduced black points scheme to five truck drivers caught overtaking dangerously.

Colonel Nasser Muradad, who heads the department, said the trucks were caught at different times of the day and that according to article no. 11 of the black points scheme, each violator will pay a fine of Dh800, and 24 black points will be registered against them. Their trucks will also be seized for 60 days.

Meanwhile, traffic patrols detained two people driving without UAE driving licences.

Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Al Jeeda, who heads the Traffic Section at the Traffic and Licensing Department, said the two violators will face court action.

He added that the penalty for this violation is either a three-month jail term or a fine of Dh5,000 or both, according to the ruling of the traffic court.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Jeeda urged the public to stick to the traffic laws to spare themselves tough penalties.
