Dubai: A financial controller will spend six months in jail for taking a football from a woman and molesting her at poolside, a court ruled on Thursday.

The Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the 25-year-old Egyptian defendant, M.E., after he was found guilty of groping the 30-year-old Uzbek businesswoman, S.P., taking away her football and calling her a sex worker.

Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir, who pronounced Thursday's verdict, also jailed M.E.'s 27-year-old compatriot, M.A., for three months for threatening to beat up a 31-year-old Uzbek woman, S.N., and calling her a prostitute.

The convicts will be deported after completing their prison terms.

Presiding Judge Mounir referred the defendants to the Dubai Misdemeanours Court where they'll be prosecuted for consuming liquor.

According to Public Prosecution records, the businesswoman accused M.E. of calling her and S.N. sex workers.

S.P. testified: "I was scared of the defendants so I lent them the ball because they seemed drunk. When he invited me to have alcohol, I told M.E. I don't drink & so he threw liquor at me. My friend warned them that they will call the police. M.E. called us prostitutes and said the police didn't scare him."

She added that when she tried to reclaim the ball, M.E. molested and cursed her and her friend.

The 31-year-old woman said: "They invited us for a drink, but I said drinking in public is prohibited. They cursed us and M.A. threatened to break my face."

The accused pleaded not guilty. The primary judgment is subject to appeal within 15 days.
