An investigating unit examining the case had suspicions the Syrian man and his son were involved as the method of theft was similar
Dubai: A Syrian man and his son have been charged with theft of valuables from a shopping trolley following an undercover operation.
The duo were known to the police as they had previously been arrested for stealing a charity box using their young family members as decoys.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Merri, Director of the criminal investigation section at Dubai Police, said in May last year the duo were charged with taking a charity donation box from a shopping mall in Al Rashidiya.
The father placed the box in a shopping trolley while using his six and seven-year-old children to hide it from view. The duo were identified by Dubai Police and arrested. They were referred to the public prosecution and given bail on humanitarian grounds.

The latest case followed a complaint by an Asian woman who was robbed while shopping in a mall. She left her trolley outside a store for 20 minutes while she and her friend were inside. The trolley contained numerous valuable items including a laptop.
An investigating unit examining the case had suspicions the Syrian man and his son were involved as the method of theft was similar. The son was arrested in an undercover operation in Sharjah while his father turned himself in after learning of his son's arrest.
On inspecting their apartments in Sharjah and Ajman, the police say they found numerous stolen items.
