Sharjah: A farm worker who killed his colleague because of his constant taunts has been sentenced to death.
The Sharia Court handed the death sentence to Arman, a Bangladeshi, for killing Natashatiram, an Indian, with a huge axe, a court source told Gulf News on Tuesday.
The court was not able to trace the blood parents of the victim and hence decided that the public prosecutor will have the right to ask for capital punishment.
Arman killed Natashatiram five years ago, but Sharjah police discovered the crime and nabbed the suspect in 2007 when a worker was fixing the gate of the farm in Al Dhaid. While digging the ground he found a skull, bones and decayed human body parts. Police investigations led to Arman who was arrested while working illegally in Dubai.
Arman told police that Natashatiram used to tell him that their boss and other family members used to love Arman and give him money despite the fact he was new to the job.
He said he got tired of Natashatiram's jealousy. Arman told police they were lying on their bed in their room on the farm when Natashatiram started repeating the same words.
He said the sponsor would let Arman enter the house and allow him to sit in the majlis.
The accused told police that the victim would also say the sponsor liked him because he was a homosexual. The accused asked the victim to stop, but he did not. Arman then hit him with an axe, once on his forehead, spilling blood on the walls and ceiling. The victim died within a few minutes. Arman said he wrapped the body in a bedsheet and buried him near the gate. He changed his blood-soaked clothes and burned them. He also painted the room to erase the blood stains.
Arman left the farm and went to stay with his friend in Sharjah claiming that he fought with his sponsor.
He stayed in his friend's room for four months. Later, he left for Dubai to stay with another friend who advised him to leave the country but he was arrested.
