Dubai: A grandfather is being questioned for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old schoolgirl and purportedly giving her Dh11 to touch his private parts.
The Dubai Public Prosecution charged the 57-year-old Arab accountant, identified as I.A., with molesting the Iranian schoolgirl.
He was also charged with committing a lewd act in public by making the victim touch his private parts.
The Dubai Court of First Instance heard yesterday that the security guards at a Dubai shopping mall told police that they saw the accountant committing the alleged act.
It was heard that the suspect was seen on the surveillance cameras. Police at the mall rushed to the location and arrested the suspect red-handed and found the Dh11 in the victim's possession.
The police later informed the girl's father, who hadsent her to the mall to buy sweets.
In his statement to the police, the suspect confessed to the charges. But later, in his statement to the public prosecution, the grandfather denied all charges.
He said he had gone with his grandchildren to the mall to spend some time. Then he saw the alleged victim who approached him wanting to grab an item from one of the shelves.
He said he helped her choose something, and since she reminded him of his granddaughters he gave her the money to buy some stuff with it. He denied molesting her.
