Alleges businessman proposed and persuaded her to join him for outing
Dubai: A saleswoman has alleged that a suspect tricked her into going to watch his remote-controlled aeroplane game in the desert where she claimed he raped her twice.
Prosecutors accused the 27-year-old Emirati businessman of having sex with the Syrian saleswoman against her will twice in Dubai's outskirts where she claimed he deceivingly convinced her to escort him to watch how the game operated.
The businessman, Y.M., pleaded not guilty, saying: "No, it's untrue. That's not what happened," when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday.
"After he got my contact [number], he claimed he wanted to see me because he wanted to marry a Syrian woman … he said he wanted to try his remote-controlled airplane game in front of me. We headed to a special area where he tried the game and on our way back, he picked a friend [up] and headed to a desert area and raped me twice," the saleswoman alleged to prosecutors.
According the arraignment sheet, Y.M. was charged with forcing the claimant to have sex with him against her will. His 25-year-old compatriot friend, I.A., was charged with aiding and abetting Y.M.
"I am not guilty. I was there but I didn't see that happen. Had I seen him doing so, I would have eventually handed him in to the police," argued I.A. when he defended himself before Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir.
In her statement, the saleswoman testified that the incident happened after she met a person named A. in Mirdif.
"A. broke his promise to marry me because he claimed he was joining the army. Two days later, I received a phone call from Y.M. who asked to meet me. I refused but he persisted, claiming that A. gave him my number. He proposed to me saying he needed a Syrian wife … he played with his game until 8pm and when we left the place, he picked [up] I.A. He drove off the road and I thought he took a short cut. Then he stopped and asked I.A. to leave the car. When I rejected him and cried, he pulled my hair then forcefully abused me," claimed the woman.
Records said the claimant escaped when Y.M. dropped his friend at home.
A. testified that the saleswoman asked him to pay her rent after they met in Mirdif. "Y.M. offered to help her when he heard us speaking … that was how they met. Later, I learnt what happened through friends," claimed A.
The trial continues.
