Dubai: Senior officials at Dubai Police on Tuesday offered a surprise honour to Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police for his continuous support and direct instructions which led the force to win an award.
Dubai Police was given the Best Government Department award, as part of the Government's Excellence Programme, early this year.
The Police on Tuesday celebrated its winning in the Golden category of the programme, and honoured the participating teams including the team that solved the case of "octopus" which involved smashing a large money laundering ring.
First place
The senior officials honoured Lieutenant General Dahi with a crystal stick signed by senior officials and directors of various departments at Dubai Police.
Lieutenant General Dahi said Dubai Police won the first place among other government departments during the first year of Dubai Government Excellence Programme in 1998.
"Maintaining the excellence of Dubai Police from 1998 to 2008 reveals the ground which we are standing on. This helped us discover our strengths and pinpoint the error fields. The success did not come out of vacuum, but it is a result of strong administrative, technical, organisational and human infrastructure," he said.
Lieutenant General Dahi said achieving the first place in the programme is not the end, but a sign to continue developing operations and services. He said many Dubai Police employees received awards from the programme and were honoured with cash prizes from the ruler, which should encourage their colleagues to participate and get in the competition of excellence.
