Dubai: Police arrested two Asian men for stealing electric cables from a construction site.
A police patrol was passing by late in the night near a construction site in Al Ghusais when the officers spotted a man riding a bicycle and carrying a plastic bag, which looked suspicious.
The patrol asked the man to stop, but he tried to run away. However, police caught him and found electric cables of different sizes in the plastic bag.
When police interrogated him, he panicked and confessed that he had bought the cables from a security guard at a construction site and he guided police to the site.
At the site, police arrested the guard and he confessed that he breached the trust of his company and sold cables to the man who was arrested earlier.
Police referred the two men to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
A police official from Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) called on owners of contracting companies to take safety precautions, choose guards carefully and keep an eye on the construction materials to avoid such incidents.
