Dubai: A drunk driver who hit a family's car and accidentally killed an eight-year-old boy who was flung out of the window faces three years in jail.
Dubai Traffic Court fined the UAE national driver, M.M., Dh20,000 and ordered him to pay Dh200,000 in blood money. His driving licence has been impounded for a year.
Traffic Public Prosecution charged him with drunken and reckless driving, causing the UAE national boy's accidental death, damaging private property and injuring four people.
The accident happened after Friday prayers when the boy's father was driving his 4X4 at 40km/h in Al Towar area. Police said M.M. was driving at more than 80km/h when he hit the victim's car.
The 4X4 overturned and the boy flew out of the window. He landed on his head and died of skull fractures. The boy's father, 10-year-old brother, cousin and the housemaid were injured in the accident. Police said the accused had more than 260mg of liquor in his blood.
The victim's lawyer, Abdul Moneim Bin Suwaidan, told the court that the accused was involved in a drunken driving case just one month prior to this incident.
