Dubai: A driver has been jailed and fined for killing a passenger and injuring six others when his car overturned as the result of a burst tyre in the Al Hibab area.

The Dubai Traffic Court of First Instance found the 24-year-old Pakistani driver responsible for the accident which occurred because he forgot to check the tyre pressure.

Blood money

M.J. lost control of the steering wheel and the vehicle veered off towards a sand dune before it overturned and landed upside down.

He was also charged with damaging private property.

The court sentenced him to two months in jail, fined him Dh5,000 and ordered him to pay Dh200,000 blood money to the Indonesian woman's family. His licence was seized for three months.

The Traffic Public Prosecution charged him with driving recklessly and failing to take safety precautions because he neglected to check the pressure of the rear tyre which punctured.
