Dubai: A number of businessmen who are being detained in Dubai Central Jail have bought new TVs for the entire jail, Gulf News has learnt.

Sources revealed that a number of businessmen, held in the jail for financial cases, bought new flat TVs for the entire jail as a type of donation for the prisoners.

The source added that the prisoners used to complain that they needed new TVs as the old sets were not working properly.

According to the source, the jail management refused to get new TV sets and told the prisoners that if they wanted new TVs they would have to buy them themselves.

The source added that the businessmen have been in jail for more than a year and were still under trial when they offered to buy new TVs for the prisoners.

A prisoner said that the TVs were a gift for the prisoners from the businessmen.

"The TVs in all cells were old and we used to ask the management to buy new and modern LCD or Plasma TVs but they refused," he said.
