Cyclists killed after being hit by speeding vehicles in Al Ain
Two cyclists were killed in separate traffic accidents at the same spot on Aud Al Touba Street on Saturday afternoon.
Al Ain: Two cyclists were killed when they were hit by two vehicles at the same spot on Oud Al Touba street on Saturday.
The vehicles, both 4x4s, were speeding and the drivers lost control before hitting the cyclists, traffic police and a witness said. Both the victims were Asians.
The victims were crossing the street near a public school around 5pm when the first vehicle appeared.
The driver went over a hump just before a zebra crossing and hit one of the cyclists.
A witness said the impact hurled the victim several metres away. The victim landed on the road and died immediately.
The driver of the car had stopped after hitting the cyclist and the driver of the other 4x4 vehicle swerved right to avoid a collision, hitting the second cyclist at the same spot.
Injured
The cyclist was severely injured and died before police and ambulance service could reach the spot.
Both the cycles were destroyed in the accident. The bodies were moved to Al Ain Hospital morgue.
