Gang broke into vehicles at Deira
Dubai A three-member gang of car thieves allegely involved in robberies between 2009 and 2010 faced charges on Wednesday. The suspected ringleader, 38-year-old T.K., is a jobless Pakistani who faced five counts of car theft along with two other suspects who remain at large.
Prosecution records show that T.K. stole three cars in 2009 — a 1996 Toyota Corolla, a 1994 Mitsubishi Gallant and a 2008 Toyota Yaris.
He is also accused of stealing two cars in 2010 — a Nissan Sunny and a Mitsubishi Lancer.
The gang used roughly the same modus operandi: they broke into the target vehicle with a blunt object to open the driver’s door. They gutted the wires, cut and rewired them and drove away.
The cars were all stolen from Dubai’s Al Muraqqabat district.
The victims were all Pakistanis and the cars were stolen from outside their homes. “My Toyota Corolla was stolen after I parked it outside my building. When I came out the next morning, it was gone,” said a 51-year-old Pakistani owner.
The second hearing in the case is on June 2.
