A suspect has denied charges of cooperating with a police station's cafeteria waiter to smuggle and distribute 10 heroin capsules to detainees, a court heard on Wednesday.
Dubai: A suspect has denied charges of cooperating with a police station's cafeteria waiter to smuggle and distribute 10 heroin capsules to detainees, a court heard on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Indian waiter also pleaded not guilty to charges of obtaining the heroin from the 20-year-old Emirati employee with the intent of smuggling and distributing the capsules when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Records said an anti-narcotics team arrested the employee, A.S., after he was reportedly spotted delivering the drugs to the waiter, D.I., who was also allegedly caught hiding in one of the restrooms of Naif Police Station.
"I didn't do it and I am innocent," said D.I. when he defended himself before Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir. A.S. pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday.
The Public Prosecution charged D.I. and A.S. with possessing 10 heroin capsules weighing 85.77 grams for distribution.
A.S. was also charged with possession of 0.04 grams of heroin and 0.35 grams of hashish and consumption of morphine, codeine, hashish and venoparpetal.
The anti-narcotics team also arrested a 21-year-old Emirati, M.Y., and 19-year-old Omani student, E.H., who were inside a car which they parked facing the police station during the raid. M.Y. and E.H. were charged with using hashish.
A second lieutenant from the police team, testified that an informant alerted the anti-narcotics department about the employee's attempt to smuggle drugs to detainees through the waiter.
"We watched Naif Station's front door & a 4X4 car parked facing the main entrance. The 20-year-old came out and walked towards the waiter and handed him something which he hid in his pocket. I chased D.I. and arrested him in one of the restrooms. I found the drugs hidden inside his left pocket."
The witness quoted the waiter admitting that he collected the drugs from A.S. and was supposed to hand it to a detainee who would pay him Dh100.
