Dubai: An Indian businessman was run over in what later turned out to be a pre-planned daylight murder-robbery in Dubai.
Police have arrested two Asian suspects for killing an Indian businessman and stealing more than Dh300,000 from him in an incident that the accused tried to portray as "a hit and run accident".
Colonel Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Deputy Director of the Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), on Tuesday told a press conference that the suspects had planned the incident after they followed the victim to a bank in Al Aweer.
One of the suspects monitored the victim until he withdrew the money from the bank, while the other suspect waited in a car outside the bank.
Col Al Mansouri said when the victim placed the money in his carry case, got in the car and drove for some distance, the accused rammed his four wheeler into the businessman's car from behind.
When the victim came out to check what had happened, one of the suspects ran him over, while the other took the money and drove away the victim's car.
Vehicles traced
Col Al Mansouri said the crime at first appeared to be a hit and run accident, but investigations revealed that it was in fact a pre-planned murder.
More than 60 CID teams traced the type of the vehicle used in the operation and the victim's vehicle, which finally led to the arrest of the two suspects.
Colonel Al Mansouri said the suspects used a stolen car and stolen number plates in the operation.
He praised the cooperation of police agencies in various emirates, especially Ajman Police CID for cooperating with Dubai Police teams.
The CID was able to solve the case in less than a week and have also recovered the money and the cars.
