A traffic police official said they were investigating the accident, but a preliminary investigation revealed that the minibus involved in the accident was speeding. As a result, the tyre burst and the minibus swerved, turned over and hit a cement barrier on the road, killing seven of the passengers.
16 hurt in another crash
The official said two other passengers sustained injuries. Six of the victims were Thai nationals, while one was an Indian. The injured men were an Indian and a Thai.
He said the victims had just arrived in Dubai for work as their luggage was found on top of the minibus.
In a separate accident on Friday morning, 16 people sustained moderate to minor injuries after their bus turned over on Emirates Road.
