Brothers held in Sharjah for possessing and planning to sell heroin
Sharjah Police raid suspects' residence after Dubai tip-off
Sharjah: Police on Saturday arrested two brothers for possessing more than half a kilogram of heroin, which they intended to sell.
A senior official at the Anti-Narcotics Department of Sharjah Police said the suspects, who do not have identification documents, had stored 695 grams of heroin in their house.
The arrests were made with the cooperation of Dubai Police.
"Dubai Police were tipped off that a resident of Sharjah was selling narcotics. A security team was formed to identify and locate the suspect," said Major Ahmad Abdul Aziz Jasem, director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Sharjah Police.
After investigations, the police team discovered that the suspect lived on Etisalat Road in Sharjah.
After completing legal procedures, police raided the suspect's home and found him with his brother, who it was later found had been involved in promoting the drugs.
The first suspect, identified as A.M.N, confessed he obtained the drugs from people abroad.
The case has been transferred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
"Gangs are constantly using innovative ways to smuggle drugs into the country, and through the size and quantity of the heroin, it is clear that the drugs were smuggled in very small quantities," Major Jasem added.
