Boy plunges to his death in Sharjah
A young boy died after he plunged from the window of an eighth-floor apartment in Sharjah, police told Gulf News.
Sharjah: A young boy died after he plunged from the window of an eighth-floor apartment in Sharjah, police told Gulf News.
Police said that the boy plunged from the window at his parent's apartment in the Al Khan area in Sharjah in front of the Sharjah Cooperative Society.
Police said the five-year-old boy Jawad, a Jordanian, jumped from the window in the afternoon a few days ago while his mother was doing her daily chores in the house.
"His father was at work while I was busy at home when the incident happened. Jawad used to play at home alone when the incident happened," his mother is reported to have told police.
The mother told police that her son had locked the door of the room before jumping from the window.
Police said that the mother informed police that she had no clue why her son locked the door and why he jumped from the window.
"My son used to watch TV a lot and he used to play with computer games all the time. He also loved to play with electronic games," the mother reportedly told the police.
"I cannot believe my son is dead," the mother said.
Police said the boy died on the spot.
The mother came to hospital accompanied by one of her friends while the father was called from work.
"Such incidents have happened in the past," said a police official. "Children are spending most of their days watching TV and playing electronic games."
The five-year-old's body was transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital by police ambulance.
Similar accidents
Police recalled similar incidents which happened in Sharjah earlier when two sisters who used to stay alone at home while their divorced mother was at work. "The seven and the five-year-old daughters jumped from the balcony imitating a famous cartoon," police said.
Police said the two sisters died on the spot.
