Dubai: Police are now hunting for 12 Britons, six Irish, four French, three Australians and a German national.
Dubai Dubai Police on Wednesday identified 15 new suspects in the assassination of a Hamas leader in Dubai, bringing the total number of people believed to have been involved in the operation to 26.
Mahmoud Al Mabhouh was found dead in room number 230 of the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel here on January 20 in what Dubai Police have said was an Israeli Mossad hit.
Of the 15 new suspects, six carried British passports, three held Irish documents, three Australian, and three French, the Dubai government's media office statement said.
Diplomatic passports
The new list of suspects includes people who offered logistical support and preparations to facilitate the crime and others who played a central role, the statement said.
"Dubai Police investigators are not ruling out the possibility of involvement of other people in the murder, stressing that the authorities are still conducting a wide search and reviewing other links to the case," the statement said.
On February 15, police released the identities of 11 people who travelled on British, Irish, French and German passports to kill Al Mabhouh.
Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, has said some of Al Mahbouh's killers used diplomatic passports to enter the country, adding that two of them left Dubai by boat for Iran.
The investigations also uncovered credit cards issued by US-based Meta Bank, IDT Finance-Gibraltar in the UK, National Building Society in the UK, and DZ Bank AG in Germany, were used by 17 of the suspects to book hotel rooms and pay for air travel. While providing credit card numbers, the police said 15 suspects used MasterCards and two used Visa cards.
Dahi earlier said he was "99, if not 100 per cent" sure that Israeli spy agency Mossad was behind Al Mabhouh's death.
He said Dubai had evidence, including wiretaps, of the agency's role.
