Abu Dhabi Police to launch call centre
Abu Dhabi Police will soon launch a call centre to enable the public to report any crimes or suspected activities immediately through phone, short text messages or email.
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police will soon launch a call centre to enable the public to report any crimes or suspected activities immediately through phone, short text messages or email.
Major General Nasser Al Khuraibati Al Nuaimi, Director General of the office of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister, said the move aims to encourage people to report any criminal activities without fear or hesitation.
The step is part of efforts by security services to reach the highest levels of excellence, effectiveness and progress to ensure security and stability for all segments of the society.
"To achieve this target, everyone is required to cooperate effectively with the police for their own safety and security.
"Some people fear of revenge if they report such activities, and some may be blackmailed and threatened by criminals. They can be assured of confidentiality and anonymity when they contact the call centre," Al Nuaimi said.
People should not succumb to blackmail or threats, since this will help criminals get away with their crimes, he stressed.
The public's cooperation with the police will help bring criminals to justice and get rid of crime, which will enhance safety of the public and stability of society.
"The fact remains that criminals are cowards, and that people should not be afraid of them," Al Nuaimi said.
Brigadier Omair Mohammad Al Muhairi, Director of Abu Dhabi Police, said many theft crimes were carried out by a small group of Asians in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai.
The group carried on its criminal activities for several months, because crimes were not reported to the police due to the victims' fear of revenge.
The group was arrested after one person reported the theft of his home in Abu Dhabi after he was assaulted and threatened with death, Al Muhairi said.
"The man did not succumb to the criminal's threat, and reported the incident to the police, who finally arrested him," he added.
