Dubai: A woman has been accused of threatening to destroy the life of her former boss if he did not pay her Dh3 million in compensation after she was sacked.

The 31-year-old German woman was said to have threatened her Iranian former boss over the phone saying that she would ruin his life and his family’s if he did not pay her Dh3 million in September.

The German suspect was present before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday but she did not enter a plea because presiding judge Mohammad Jamal did not level the accusations against her.

The Iranian boss, a company’s executive chairman, testified to prosecutors that the alleged incident happened after the German’s services were terminated due to her incompetence.

“Initially, she was hired as my personal assistant after she claimed that she holds degrees in medicine and in commerce. She was tasked to handle my health affairs and the company’s commercial affairs. She stalled when we asked her to provide us with her degrees to process her residency. In the beginning she proved to be competent and professional and had good relations with her colleagues. As part of her job, she accessed all the details of the company’s accounts. Suddenly, her behaviour changed and she became a troublemaker... I shifted her to our branch in Oman. She did not perform well, so I returned her to Dubai. Then she interfered in personal matters and checked my private phones and laptop until I decided to fire her despite having warned her repeatedly. On September 3, I was driving back to Dubai accompanied by two managers from the company when she called.

“She told me over the phone that I had ruined her life and then she threatened to destroy my life if I did not pay her Dh3 million. When I asked her how she would ruin my life, she claimed that she would divulge the secrets of my company to business competitors. I ignored her thinking that she might have been annoyed after her dismissal. However she continued threatening me over the phone and repeatedly asked me to pay her Dh3 million otherwise she would destroy my life and that of my family and children. She claimed that she would ruin my reputation. I made several of my colleagues and company managers listen to her threats on the speakerphone,” claimed the boss.

The company’s sales manager and financial managers confirmed the Iranian claimant’s statement.

Meanwhile one of the company’s partners testified to prosecutors that the Iranian and the defendant met along with their lawyers to settle a labour dispute between them. The German woman also lodged a sexual harassment complaint against the Iranian boss at Al Muraqqabat police station, said the partner.

Presiding judge Jamal will hand out a ruling [pertaining to a technical issue and not the crime itself] later this month.
