Dubai: An illegal resident fell from a fourth floor and hurt himself while climbing his way down from a company where he was being confined.

Prosecutors have accused the company’s 57-year-old Pakistani general manager of locking up his countryman, M.T., in the fourth-floor office against his will on September 18, 2012.

Records said M.T. tried to run away but he injured himself when he fell from the window and landed on a balcony on the first floor of the building.

The defendant, M.I., failed to show up at the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to be prosecuted on Monday.

Presiding judge Ali Attiyah Sa’ad adjourned the case until M.I. is legally notified about the next hearing on July 8.

The defendant admitted before prosecutors that he processed a visit visa for M.T. last year.

“He entered the country without telling me and stayed here until his visa expired. He did not renew his visa or leave the country or pay his residency fines… he stayed here illegally and I did not have any clue where he stayed. When the fines accumulated against my company, I couldn’t get hold of M.I. until one day I came to know that he was in Al Aweer… I met him and he agreed to stay at my company in Al Rifaa until settling his status. I accompanied him to the company and kept him inside… I locked the door from outside and left. The next day I was informed that M.I. fell from the window while he was trying to escape,” the defendant claimed during prosecution questioning.

One of the company’s Pakistani clerks testified that he saw M.T. falling from the window and injuring himself.

“He was bleeding… I phoned my boss, M.I., immediately and informed him what had happened,” said the clerk.

Meanwhile the building’s cleaner testified that M.I. informed him that he had locked up someone inside the office until the next day.
