Dubai
There seems to be a clear lack of signal discipline among drivers in Dubai. All of the motorists seem to be in a hurry to rush home in the evening hours and they keep ignoring the traffic signal at a junction in the Deira area (as seen in photograph). Even though the junction is congested, motorists do not stop at the signal to allow the junction to clear. This is a rule that is taught in driving schools around the country; one has to stop and wait till the junction is clear.
By ignoring the rule, these motorists not only get delayed, but cause a nuisance. People from all sides of the junction then get delayed, too. At the end of a work day, many people might be frustrated and tired. These people then get even more agitated in this situation and start sounding the horn of their vehicles.
The concerned authorities need to install a camera at this junction so that people who ignore the rule or jump a signal can be spotted and fined. I know there is a big fine for jumping a red signal, but people only seem to respect the law if there is police patrol present in the area. I believe that such people must go back to driving school and be given training in lane change and traffic signal discipline.
