- A world of opportunities opened up for Gulf News reader Ayman Abdul Jaber, when he began volunteering for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund. He hopes readers are interested in helping, too.
We often wake up in the morning, taking all that we own for granted. I have lived in Dubai for the past 17 years and often thought that my view of the world was rather limited.
I grew up in a world of luxury, all the while not seeing what was engraved on the other side of the coin.
A year ago, I came to know of the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF). I remember the first meeting very vividly. I stood in the middle of the lounge, looking around, not believing that I would ever be involved in such a noble cause.
The PCRF invites wounded children from Palestine for medical care in Dubai. Due to the countless efforts of the members and the selfless acts of the PCRF volunteers, every single child that came to the UAE, returned with a wide smile on his or her face.
On December 1, 2009, three children arrived in Dubai. Mohammad, Yasmin, and Ahmad were hosted by extremely generous volunteers.
The children cruised around Dubai and visited different places — from swimming pools to the Global Village — all due to the effort of the volunteers. They were also able to receive the best medical care, due to the hard work of PCRF members.
I have recruited more than 20 volunteers in the past year and I intend on doing that, once again. Would Gulf News readers be interested in joining this worthy cause?
