Dubai
Many reports have been written about the issue of littering, and yet it continues to occur. Lately, I have noticed that people are throwing waste in and around our community in the Al Qusais Area, in Dubai. Walkways and even elevators in residential buildings are not safe from such irresponsible acts (as seen in photograph). People don’t seem to care when it comes to such matters.
A few days ago, I had the opportunity to take part in a clean-up campaign organised by the Dubai Municipality. At this event, I met a lot of people who were volunteering for this good cause, and it made me believe that there are still those who care about the environment. But, what was sad was to see all the litter that was thrown on the streets. This is because of the other set of people who are irresponsible and spoil the beauty of Dubai.
Despite all the fines and the campaigns organised by the authorities, these people still need a reminder to keep our surroundings clean. The authorities are doing a lot to maintain a clean and green Dubai; we need to do our part, too.
It would also be a great help if the Dubai Municipality placed more trash bins near the walkways and at other public places.
