Riyadh: A Saudi paratrooper has managed to escape captivity from Al Houthi rebels, reported the local Arabic daily Al Riyadh.

Soldier Saeed Bin Mohammad Al Omari was captured during the current fighting between Saudi Arabian forces and the Yemeni rebels near the borders between the kingdom and Yemen.

The paper further said that Al Omari has managed to take away with him some of the rebels’ important documents and military maps.

His reappearance silenced rumors of his death which were spreading on many websites.

Saudi Arabia has recently regained control of terror seized by the Yemeni rebels in a cross-border incursion last week, which prompted a full scale military reaction from Riyadh.

Citizens of districts near the Jazan area, which is close to where the fighting is taking place, have approached Saudi authorities for approval to get weapons, reported the local Arabic daily Al Madina.

Many who work as guards in schools and local government offices said that they would need the weapons as a security measure against Al Houthi rebels if any manage to infiltrate the borders.
