Riyadh: Saudi security forces killed four militants in a clash in Awamiya region on Saturday, the Interior Ministry said.

The troops raided a militant hideout in Awamiya town and killed the four in an exchange of fire.

The dead were behind the killing of a member of the security forces and wounding of another last Sunday, a ministry spokesman said, quoted by the Saudi state news agency SPA.

During a shootout in Awamiya, “four terrorists, including the primary suspect in the shooting of soldier Abdul Aziz Bin Ahmad Al Assiri, were killed,” the spokesman was quoted as saying in a statement.

One policeman was wounded.

Assiri died Sunday when officers came under fire from farms near Awamiya.

The village, just west of Dammam city on the Gulf coast, has witnessed clashes between security forces and protesters.
