GCC foreign ministers wind up Riyadh session

GCC Foreign Minister wound up their 101 session they held in Riyadh which serves as a preparatory meeting for the 27th GCC summit set to take place in Riyadh tomorrow.

Riyadh: GCC Foreign Minister wound up their 101 session they held in Riyadh which serves as a preparatory meeting for the 27th GCC summit set to take place in Riyadh tomorrow.

In a speech, Prince Saud Al Faisal, Saudi Foreign Minister referred to the deteriorating situation in Iraq which represents a great challenge and risk to the region's security.

He also warned against intervention in Iraqi internal affairs and stressed the great keenness of the GCC member states on preserving Iraq unity and safety.

Prince Saud who took over this session's chairmanship lauded the efforts exerted by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Foreign Minister while presiding over the previous summit session.

He said, "The GCC Foreign Ministers' are meeting under delicate circumstances as fast developments sweeping the region."

Prince Saud also referred to the crises and challenges engulfing the region as well as internal, regional and international conflicts stressing that all these developments make it inevitable for the member states to measure up to the with an objective of presenting to the leaders well defined decisions which will help in moving the Council forward.

He also highlighted the decisions made by the ministerial committee which met recently in Cairo to arrange for the convening of a reconciliation conference which will bring together all Iraqi sects to safeguard Iraq from the risk of disintegration and plunging into a factional sedition.

He also referred to the Lebanese and Palestinian issues, calling on all the disputing sects to resort to reason and dialogue to preserve their countries' unity and integrity.

Prince Saud also announced that, as per the directives of their majesties and highnesses, this summit will be named after the late Kuwaiti Ruler Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah in recognition of his efforts in streamlining and strengthening the Council's march.

Being the cornerstone of development and progress Prince Saud called for the attaining of economic integration among the member states for the wellbeing of their populations.
