Al Bashir, Abdullah set for talks in Riyadh
Riyadh : Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz will hold wide-ranging talks with Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir here today.
The summit talks will focus mainly on boosting bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation.
The leaders will also discuss the general situation in Sudan and the ongoing efforts to solve the Darfur problem. "Omar Al Bashir's visit attains greater significance in the wake of Saudi Arabia's unflinching support to Khartoum in restoring peace in the restive Darfur region," the top Sudanese diplomat in the Kingdom said.
Speaking to Gulf News, Sudan's Ambassador to Kingdom Abdul Hafiz Mohammad underscored that the international community should extend their hand of cooperation toward the Sudanese government in fulfilling its commitment to its citizens.
The Sudanese official said the President's visit comes in the wake of intense negotiations and consultations held to find a lasting solution to the Darfur dossier. "The talks will also figure the peace accord reached between Sudan and Chad to solve border dispute," he said.
According to Mohammad, the visit is also aimed at extending unwavering support to the Kingdom in its fight to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty following last month's armed infiltration by Al Houthi rebels.
"Omar Al Bashir will also discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation especially the Kingdom's food security project and investment plans in farms abroad," he said adding that the president will also visit Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz to extend him Sudan's greetings.
