Address problems facing Saudi students in US, urges diplomat
The problems faced by Saudi students in the United States must be taken into account in a comprehensive and strategic manner and concrete solutions must be devised for them, said Ambassador Osama Naqli, Director of the Media Department at the Foreign Ministry.
Riyadh: The problems faced by Saudi students in the United States must be taken into account in a comprehensive and strategic manner and concrete solutions must be devised for them, said Ambassador Osama Naqli, Director of the Media Department at the Foreign Ministry.
The comment came ahead of the meeting of the Economic Committee under the United States-Saudi Arabia Strategic Dialogue to be hosted by Washington on Friday.
Ambassador Naqli said: "These issues should no longer be treated as individual cases. The cultural committee at the United States-Saudi Arabia Strategic Dialogue should look into this matter and address the problems on a permanent basis," he said while voicing concern over the reported ill-treatment of some Saudi students in the United States recently.
Visa procedures
Speaking to reporters here yesterday, Dr Yousuf Al Saadun, Undersecretary for Economic and Cultural Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, said several issues, including visa procedures, intellectual property rights, the current economic boom and the bureaucratic and administrative procedures in business transactions between the two countries would come up for discussion.
"The participants would discuss in detail major hurdles facing businessmen from both the countries in the trade and commerce sectors as well as in attracting more investments."
Senior officials from the Foreign Ministries of both the countries as well as members of the Saudi-US Business Council would attend the meeting, Dr Al Saadun said.
According to him, the meeting would review the general economic situation of Saudi Arabia and the investment environment in the kingdom following the government's measures to attract foreign direct investment.
The United States-Saudi Arabia Strategic Dialogue was established in 2005.
