Oman to cook 150-km meal with local produce
A 150-kilometre meal! Mind-boggling, isn't it? That's precisely what the Omanis plan to do, to raise awareness on locally grown products.
Muscat: A 150-kilometre meal! Mind-boggling, isn't it? That's precisely what the Omanis plan to do, to raise awareness on locally grown products.
The sumptuous treat, prepared entirely from local agricultural produce, will be spread at the Oman Tourism College today and tomorrow. But the menu has been kept under wraps, to bring an element of surprise.
The meal is the feature of this week's 'Buy Omani' consumer campaign organised by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE).
'Origin Oman' is the new catchphrase for the establishment's long-running campaign to persuade people to buy Omani products.
"People will attend the meal for different reasons, Ibtisam Al Faruji, Head of Marketing at Public Establishment. "Some will leave the event wanting to source 100 per cent of their food locally while others will be saying: 'OK, I've understood the concept. I can now cook an Oman-produced meal.' We're not trying to prescribe, we're just pointing out that local produce is available and we encourage people to take advantage of it."
