Muscat: Over 100 Tweeps, members of social networking website Twitter.com, will join over 200 cities around the world to host its first "Twestival" on Thursday.
As a unique confluence of land, water and air, OmanTwestival 2010 promises to stand out among all Twestivals.
Participants will meet at the Twestival held on sea, on board the world's fastest catamaran.
"We are delighted to support Oman Twestival 2010 by providing Oman's tweeps a unique choice of venue onboard our world-class catamaran. We would also like to celebrate this global event as a tribute to Oman's maritime legacy," said Mehdi Al Abduwani, Chairman of National Ferries Company.
"As an active corporate social media participant in Oman, Oman Air is glad to be a part of Oman Twestival 2010. The event will go a long way in placing Oman on the global stage while giving a huge fillip to social media in Oman," said Mohammad Mubarak Al Shikely, General Manager Marketing of Oman Air.
"Twestival is a community gathering of the members of the twitter community– an event held on the same day of the year across several cities of the world synchronised in the real world, and Oman is hosting this event for the first time," said Sangeetha Sridhar, an organiser of the OmanTwestival.
Twestival 2010 supports education through Concern Worldwide, a non-government humanitarian organisation that reaches to out-of-school children.
Concern's education programs currently reach over 700,000 people in 25 countries across the regions of Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.
The first global Twestival was held on 12th February 2009 across over 202 cities with the cause of providing clean water.
It managed to raise over $250,000 for Charity – Water to provide more than 55 wells in Uganda, Ethiopia and India.
