Muscat: A daring attempt to smuggle narcotics has been foiled by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) at the Muscat International Airport.
According to a ROP press release on Monday, police have arrested a Pakistani national who appeared uncomfortable on his arrival at the Muscat International Airport. The suspect was travelling from an Asian country into Oman.
The police did not find anything objectionable in the suspect's bags but he was taken to the ROP hospital in Qurum where X-rays revealed that he had swallowed 134 capsules of narcotics.
This modus operandi of swallowing capsules filled with drugs is becoming common and police at the Muscat International Airport are vigilant about this method of smuggling drugs.
According to sources, some of these drug smugglers, who appear to be poor couriers, sometimes arrive without any luggage.
