Holy Quran award winner named in Oman
The winner of the 17th Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Memorisation Contest has been named as Asim Bin Saif Bin Hamed Al Busaidi from Suwaiq.
Muscat: The winner of the 17th Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Memorisation Contest has been named as Asim Bin Saif Bin Hamed Al Busaidi from Suwaiq.
Announcing the results on Monday Habib Bin Mohammad Al Riyami, Secretary-General of the Sultan Qaboos Centre for Islamic Culture, said he hoped more people would compete next year. The contest was held in July and 129 contestants took part. Al Riyami thanked Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed for supporting the contest since it began in 1993.
Follow teachings
"One of the major goals of the contest is to urge Omanis to memorise the Holy Quran and follow its teachings," he said.
The contest also aims to boost the Sultanate's participation in the international Holy Quran competitions.
Mohammad Bin Salim Bin Said Al Ma'amari (Sohar centre) came second in Level One (full memorisation category) followed by Al Mutassim Bin Said Bin Saif Al Ma'wali (Al Khuwair Centre). In Level Two (memorisation of 24 sections of the Quran), Abdullah Bin Said Bin Ali Al Hikmani (Sinaw Centre) came first, Mussallam Bin Ali Bin Ahmad Al Mashali (Salalah Centre) second and Mariam Bint Hamad Bin Said Al Khamisiyah (Suwaiq Centre) third.
In Level 3 (memorisation of 18 sections from the Quran) Maya' Bint Sabah Bin Musabah Al Sadiyah (Suwaiq Centre) came first, Abdullah Bin Khadim Bin Saif Al Ma'amari (Ja'alan Centre) second and Ahmad Bin Salim Bin Moosa Al Kharousi (Sinaw Centre) third. In Level 4 (memorisation of 12 sections from the Quran), Karimah Bint Fadhil Bin Said Al Hashimiyah (Adam Centre) came first, Sharifa Bint Saif Bin Nabhan Al Shikailiyah (Ibri Centre) second and third was Zahir Bin Nasser Bin Sulaiman Al Ismaili (Sinaw Centre).
There were four winners in the Level 5 category (memorisation of six sections from the Quran).
