Kuwait City: Shiite MPs, who are charged with threatening national unity by holding a rally to glorify slain Hezbollah commander Emad Mughnieh, could face three years of imprisonment if convicted, sources told Gulf News.
Ali Al Rashed, one of four lawyers charging MPs Adnan Abdul Samad and Ahmad Lari for declaring loyalty to Hezbollah and establishing Hezbollah Kuwait, told Gulf News on Thursday the prison sentence is not certain and could vary according to the judgment of the Public Prosecution.
"Interrogations are currently underway about the involvement of the two MPs. Presenters of the lawsuits were investigated for three hours on Wednesday," he said.
He said it is still unknown when Abdul Samad or Lari will be summoned before the prosecutor.
Four Kuwaiti lawyers and two citizens requested the Chief Prosecutor on Wednesday to try the two MPs. The lawsuit is also against former minister Abdul Hadi Al Saleh, former MP Abdul Mohsin Jamal and municipal member Fadhel Safar for attending the condolence meeting held last weekend.
