Kuwait: Kuwait will hold nuclear power talks with France's Areva over the next few days, the economy minister of the European country said on Sunday.

French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde said both countries discussed capital partnerships between French firms and the Kuwaiti government in the field of nuclear energy.

"Civil nuclear power...will be further developed with meetings due to be held in the coming days between Areva and the Kuwaiti authorities," Lagarde told reporters at Kuwait City during a short visit.

"We hope to make significant progress shortly," she said, adding that no nuclear power agreement had been signed during her visit.

In March, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Shaikh Jaber Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah said Kuwait will cooperate with France in the field of nuclear power, hinting it could take a stake in the nuclear group Areva, which is majority-owned by the French government.
