Dubai: A source in the Kuwaiti parliament, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Gulf News that the cabinet will request from the parliament on Tuesday to postpone the questioning procedure and the parliament will vote in favour of the request.

The 16-member cabinet has the right to vote in the parliament in accordance with the constitution.
They can get a majority ruling in their favor if 17 parliament members support their request. It seems that the government is confident that the voting will be in its favour and thus will avert the appearance of the prime minister for questioning in front of the parliament, which is considered as "politically unacceptable" by the Emir of Kuwait and the ruling family since the prime minister is senior member in the family.

The cabinet met Monday at Al Seef Palace to discuss the impact of the international credit crunch and its consequences on Kuwait. Following the meeting, a written statement read by Faisal Al Hajji, Minister of state for Cabinet Affairs, mentioned nothing about the parliament meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

Jassim Al Khurafi, speaker of the 50-member Parliament told reporters later that speculations about deteriorating relations between the cabinet and the parliament following the submittal of the questioning by three MPs is untrue.

"The ministers will attend Tuesday's meeting in the Parliament because there was no letter from the cabinet to excuse its members from attending the parliamentarian session," he stressed.

He explained that it was up to the cabinet to come up with a request to the parliament to delay the questioning procedure of the Prime Minister and up to the parliament to vote on accepting such a request.

"Any decision is to be taken in accordance with the constitution of Kuwait, which has the full respect of every Kuwaiti," he said.
