Kuwait arrests man for performing 50 abortions
A Bangladeshi national who had performed 50 abortions in Kuwait has been arrested
The arrest followed a tip off by a police informant and a surveillance operation, Arab Times daily said. The "doctor" was held after the public prosecution gave the police a warrant to search his apartment in Khaitan. The police also seized medical tools used in the ‘operations.'
During the quizzing, he reportedly admitted that he had performed 50 abortions, amid claims that one Asian woman died from complications, the daily said.
Abortion is banned in Kuwait and physicians, pharmacists and midwives who commit the offence are liable to harsh prison terms and fines. However, abortions are permitted only to save the life of the pregnant woman or in the case of foetal impairment.
