Manama: A Kuwaiti court on Monday postponed the trial of former lawmakers to September 23. Ex- MPs Musallam Al Barrak, Khalid Al Tahoos, Khalid Shakhir, Abdullah Al Barghash, Nayef Al Medras, Salem Al Namlan, Falah Al Sawwagh, Ali Al Diqbasi and Faisal Al Yahya, as well as activist Ahmad Al Sayyar were put on trial on charges of illegal assembly. Kuwaiti courts have had to deal in recent months with several cases of unlawful rallies and abuses of the Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah that marked the bitter standoff between the authorities and some opposition figures over the merit of amending the controversial 2006 elections law. The Constitutional Court is scheduled to announce its final verdict on the issue next week.

The much-anticipated ruling is expected to leave a profound impact on the political and social landscape in Kuwait.
