Manama: A dead baby dolphin was swept ashore on the sandy beach next to the Scientific Centre complex in the Al Salmiyah district, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
The cause of the dolphin's death was not known, although onlookers speculated that it might have gone adrift before being pushed ashore by waves.
Beaching of dead dolphins is rare in Kuwait, even though the country had witnessed on several occasions shark whales drifting and getting stranded in bays and harbours.
Globally, around 2,000 marine animals, mainly whales, beach themselves annually. Some of the stranded animals reach the beaches alive, but die from dehydration.
Among the diverse reasons cited for whales' beaching is the wide-spread belief that the phenomenon is related to high pollution.
