Manama: A woman who has claimed that she had been raped in a bid to prevent her husband from travelling to Thailand is in police custody and will be tried.
According to the Capital Governorate police, the expatriate woman living in Manama called the police to report that a stranger had broken into her home, raped her and stole her husband's passport and plane ticket.
"A police patrol was dispatched to the women's house to investigate the report, but the policemen soon discovered that her claim lacked credibility," the police said. "It appeared that the woman made up the story to prevent her husband from travelling to Thailand."
The woman, whose name or nationality were not revealed, will be reported to the public prosecutor for lying to the police and wasting their time, the statement said.
