Manama - Ten expatriates died on Sunday morning of smoke inhalation from a fire that gutted their home, a civil defence official said.
A fire broke out at the old house in East Riffa, 20km south of the capital Manama. The civil defence office was alerted at 4.24 am, the official said.
The men, from an Asian country, were believed to have died before the fire was brought under control.
A probe into the cause of the fire initially indicated that it was due to an electrical malfunction.
“We call for the installation of fire detectors and for higher safety standards to ensure such painful tragedies are not repeated,” the official said.
