Dubai: A policeman was seriously injured in Bahrain in attacks near a village in the north of the country, the police said.
“A policeman sustained serious injuries in an attack near the entrance of Al Dair village on Monday,” the General Director of the Muharraq Governorate Police said.
“A number of domestic terrorists used Molotov cocktails and iron rods to attack a police jeep that had been deployed to provide security in the area. The policeman was rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical condition,” he said in a statement emailed to the media.
According to the police, another group in a separate incident placed a gas cylinder inside burning tyres on the roof of a power transmitter that was under construction. “When flames engulfed the cylinder it exploded and severely damaged the transmitter in the process,” the official said.
The General Director said that investigations had been launched in both incidents to identify and arrest those who were involved.
“Upon arrest they will be referred to the Public Prosecution,” he said. “Anyone with knowledge of either incident is requested to call the police hotline. All calls will be treated as anonymous,” he said.
