Manama: The 20-year struggle to stop the maltreatment of women in shariah courts might end with the final draft of the family law to be submitted to the Women's Union on Saturday, an activist said on Wednesday.
The President of the Women's Union, Mariam Al Ruwai, told Gulf News the proposed legislation had been drafted by Sunni and Shiite scholars to avoid criticism. She said that after receiving the draft the union with members from all women's societies would form a panel to follow up its implementation process with concerned bodies.
