Bahrain hosts human rights film festival
The four-day event, organised by the Bahrain Society for Public Freedom and Democracy Support and funded by the Social Development Ministry, will coincide with the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Manama: The first international human rights film festival in the Arab world will be held in Bahrain in May, organisers have said.
The four-day event, organised by the Bahrain Society for Public Freedom and Democracy Support and funded by the Social Development Ministry, will coincide with the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"The international festival will put Bahrain on the international map of human rights film festivals that are held throughout the year," festival director Nasser Burdestani said recently in a press statement.
"It will be a strong message from the people of the Arab region to the world that stresses their deep belief in human rights, their love for peace and justice and their constant and steady support to the rights of people wherever they are," he said.
For the activist, the festival will be "another achievement for Bahrain in the area of human rights."
"This festival is the first of its kind in the Arab world and we are confident that it will be a new accomplishment for human rights supporters here," he said.
